If you didn’t watch game 7 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals last night, you missed out! The game had to be decided in 2OT. It was a back and forth affair and the hitting was great! Marc Methot had a textbook hip check on Evgeni Malkin, sending him head over heels. You can see the hit on Youtube here: Methot stops Malkin with perfectly placed hip-check.
Senators’ goalie Craig Anderson saw 42 shots, stopping 39 of them. While Matt Murray only saw 29 shots from the Senators. The first period ended in a scoreless tie with Pittsburgh taking the only penalty in the period. Scott Wilson was called for a slash against Ottawa’s Mark Stone. The refs were not calling a lot of penalties as the box score only shows 3 total!
In the second period, Chris Kunitz opened up the scoring on the give and go with Conor Sheary. Not to be outdone, Mark Stone scores 20 seconds later, tying the game at 1. The third period saw goals from the Penguin’s Justin Schultz and Ottawa’s Ryan Dzingel to force overtime.
In the first overtime, Phil Kessel had a near miss that left the fans in Pittsburgh upset. The puck bounces around just on top of the net, while the replay looked like Kessel’s shot was a goal. Anderson’s huge save on Kessel
Here is the Chris Kunitz game-winning goal to send the Penguins back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
“I don’t think it really matters who scores,” Kunitz said. “I think we’re all just happy that the game is ended and we’re on the top side of it and that we get to go play for another Stanley Cup. I think it’s something that takes work from everybody on the ice to be able to score a goal.”
The Penguins move on to the Stanley Cup Finals where they will face the Nashville Predators. Game 1 will be Monday @8 PM on NBC.
