Tyler Higbee has pleaded guilty to assault charges that stem from April 2016, before the Los Angeles Rams drafted him in the 4th round. The charges come from an incident outside of a Kentucky bar. Higbee got into an argument with a Saudi national which lead to blows. During the assault, a third party began to yell racial slurs towards the victim. The victim also suffered a concussion along with a brain bleed.
Higbee has been ordered to pay the victim an undisclosed amount, perform 250 hours of community service, cannot own or possess a firearm, use drugs or drink alcohol. Failure to obey this order could result in a 2-year prison sentence.
The NFL is unlikely to seek disciplinary action due to the incident taking place before Higbee was drafted.
As a rookie tight-end, Higbee started seven games and caught 11 passes for 85 yards and 1 touchdown.
